The After School Specials (A.S.S.) are Palm Harbor University High School's A Capella group. singers from all programs are eligible to audition and 16 singers are selected each year to be a part of the group.
What Is A Capella Music?
A Capella music is a variation of singing where there are no instruments. We make noises that replicate the sounds heard in popular songs. A famous example of A Capella music is the music group Pentatonix.
When Do You Rehearse?
The After School Specials rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday from 2-3 pm in the chorus room.
What Do You Do?
We perform at local parties, schools, luncheons, and more! We also go to a competition in February every year called ICHSA.
What Is ICHSA?
ICHSA is the International Competition of High School A Cappella. The competition is broken up into 3 rounds: Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. You must place in the top 3 to advance from Quarterfinals to Semifinals, and you must place First at the Semifinal competition to advance to Finals in New York.
What Do I Get Out Of Being In This Group?
The satisfaction of creating music simply with the sounds of our voices. You also have the chance to bond with 15 new friends that share a love for music just like you!
When Can I Audition?
Auditions are held at the end of the school year, more information will be given at that time. You must be in at least one of Mr. Hudson's classes to audition.
What Happens When I Audition For After School Specials? You will have to prepare a song to sing and be able to sight read a segment from a piece chosen by the director.
